The Chinese Wolfberries, also known as gau gei zi, comes in an oblong shape and is sweet in taste. Good quality wolfberries should not sink when dropped into a bowl of water, but float for some time. Dyed-free wolfberries should only produce orange colored residue when steeped. If the wolfberries glistens under the sun, it means that they have been exposed to sulfur dioxide to be preserved, which is not good of course. If alum has been added, the herbs will be coarse and dry to touch, and will tastes sour when you taste the herbs.

These wolfberries have been known to be an anti-oxidant food that could help to nourish and tonifies the liver and kidney, alleviates sore back, leg, and stomach, improves night vision and blurred vision, diabetes, and premature white hair. It also improves and regulates immune systems and lowers blood lipids. Not only that, wolfberries also helps to elevate level of testosterone and simulates estrogen. Best of all, wolfberries are part of the anti-aging properties. A study on 43 healthy senior adults in which each ate 50 grams of wolfberries continuously for 10 days (as a therapy period). The blood tests showed that immune indicators IgA, IgG and lymph cell conversion rate were elevated, cAMP increased, cGMP decreased. The ratios of cAMP/cGMP were elevated to healthy levels.

Another study also proves that consuming the wolfberries occasionally twice per week for a consecutive period of 12 months could help to correct a myopia (short sighted) patience's vision. The story is revealed below.

The test subject, a Malaysian cute chubby lady named Evie, have been suffering from myopia since primary school. Her power, from a mere of 0.5 per eye sight, had increased to a 1.75 (OD) and a 1.50 (OS) and had sustained since. Test subject has been wearing correction medias, such as glasses and contact lenses to assist her eye sight and had been chewing on carrots since young hoping that one day these factors would help her decrease her power, but to no avail.

Evie's husband, yes she's married (sigh, too bad), has been a fond lover for chinese herbal soups. Because of his fondness, Evie has been stewing and boiling herbal soups twice a week to show him some loving. Evie has also then took fondness and loving over a particular soup named "Shen Qi Thang". This soup contains the herbs of Astragulus (huang qi), Longans, Wolfberries (gou zi), Peony Reds (chi shao), Dates, Dioscorea (shan yao) and a few others. She has been consuming this particular soup for almost a year now and has never been bored with its taste at all.

Now, Evie has made a trip to the optical store last month to get herself a new pair of glasses. She underwent the normal procedures of eye sight tests and guess what, her power has decreased. Her OD (right eyesight) and OS (left eyesight) was decreased to 1.25. Isn't that amazing? Thanks to the wonders of wolfberries, her eyesight is now improving. Evie is hoping that by the end of 2010, after the continuous consumption of MORE wolfberries, she do not need to have the aids of glasses and contact lenses anymore, but a pure perfect 6/6 vision.
